A Worryless Guide to Heatless Curls

Ever burned your hand with a curling iron? How about missing the bus because you messed up and had to redo a curl or two? Ever accidentally burned off a bit of your hair? Or maybe you just want to be able to take your time getting ready for school and not spend half of your morning curling your hair. If you have any of these problems you can always try heatless curls! What’s that, you say? You don’t know the ways you can curl your hair without an iron? Here are a couple of ways you can do just that!

1: Rollers

Everyone knows the classic hair rollers that were popularized in the 80s. All it took was a night with them in your hair and about a whole can of hairspray and boom! You had the perfect hair. If you enjoy a vintage look you can put rollers in your hair (make sure they are snug) and go to bed. When you wake up, simply take them out, brush your hair lightly, and spray a bit of spray to make sure they stay in place, and you’re ready to go! I recommend any store-bought rollers, but if you want some really defined 80s curls you can always use vintage rollers from Amazon or eBay: they really make you feel like your hair’s time-traveling! It also works on shorter hair as well.

2: Hair rods

You might recognize this from the TikTok trend; it’s currently the most popular way of curling hair and I can see why! It’s more comfortable to sleep in compared to any night-curling and gives you beachy waves that are to die for. How do you use it? Most kits come with 2 scrunchies and a rod, you simply put your hair into four sections and braid it through the rod as if you were braiding an extension in. Overall, it is possible to achieve curls with these methods usually only on long hair, but the results may vary.

3: French Braids

We can’t ignore the “Moms way of styling your hair for bed” hairstyle. You’d go to bed with these bad boys and wake up, take them out, and have some really cute loose curls. Everyone, of course, noticed and complimented you and you felt like the belle of the ball. Well, you might have less of a “princess” feeling, but you will still love the overall look, and it’s pretty easy! Even a simple braid that you did yourself will look amazing by the morning, bonus points if you wear it for the entire weekend and take them out Monday morning. This has to be the easiest way to achieve curls on this list.

4: DIY curls

You are probably confused, because honestly, I’m a little confused too, for such an easy look I couldn’t find an exact name for it. Basically, it’s turning a piece of clothing, a shirt or leggings for example, into your very own hair rod! Personally, I like to use an old pair of tights. I cut the bottoms off, wrap it around my hair the same way I would use a rod, pin it up and cover it with access on the body part, and roll up the bottoms to protect the hair. If this is a little confusing for you, there are tons of YouTube videos online that I have tried many times, and for the most part, every tutorial works! You just have to find the right one for you.

People’s hair is very different, and people’s goals for their hair are very different, so one of these tips might work better for you than others. To start, you have to think about the type of curl in mind, your hair type, your hair experience, and go from there. And remember, don’t give up, and be unique with your look!
